When tension at home keeps repeating itself, it can feel exhausting. Conversations turn into arguments. Silence replaces connection. Everyone may care deeply, yet no one feels fully heard.
At Insight Centre Counselling & Psychotherapy, we offer family counselling and therapy in Barrie, Ontario for families who want a calmer, healthier way forward. Whether you’re navigating ongoing conflict, parenting stress, separation, addiction-related strain, or grief, we provide a supportive space where each voice matters.
Family therapy is not about blaming one person. It’s about understanding patterns, improving communication, and creating meaningful change together. We work collaboratively, respectfully, and at a pace that feels safe for everyone involved.
Family counselling can support many types of family systems. We welcome:
If your home feels tense, disconnected, or emotionally overwhelming, you’re not alone. Seeking support is not a sign of failure. It’s a step toward understanding and repair.
Families often reach out when patterns feel stuck or escalating. Common concerns include:
Many families tell us, “We’ve tried talking, but nothing changes.” Family counselling offers structured guidance to help shift those dynamics.
Family counselling includes two or more members of a family system. This may involve parents and children, partners, caregivers, or others who play a meaningful role in the family.
Our focus is on improving communication, identifying interaction patterns, and building healthier ways of relating. We look at the system as a whole rather than singling out one individual.
At Insight Centre, we integrate approaches drawn from:
These methods help families explore roles, communication styles, emotional triggers, and relational patterns in practical, understandable ways. We tailor the approach based on your family’s specific needs and goals.
Our philosophy is grounded in client-centered, trauma-informed, and strength-based care. That means we prioritize safety, collaboration, and empowerment. We meet your family where you are and support change that feels realistic and sustainable.
We believe every family deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported. If you are looking for individual counselling, Tatyana Bashkatova, RP, also offers one-on-one therapy for adults seeking personalized support.
Insight Centre Counselling & Psychotherapy is a clinic led by Tatyana Bashkatova, Registered Psychotherapist (RP). With over 15 years of experience and training in Family Systems Therapy and related modalities, she provides care grounded in trauma-informed, depth-oriented work while maintaining a supportive and collaborative environment for families.

During Sessions
In family counselling, we create a structured and balanced space. Each member has an opportunity to speak and be heard. We guide conversations to reduce escalation and increase clarity. The pace is collaborative, not rushed.
Family counselling doesn’t erase challenges overnight. Instead, it builds tools and awareness that create lasting change.
Families often experience:
Over time, many families notice less tension and more cooperation. Parents may feel more confident. Children may feel more secure. Relationships can begin to feel steadier and more supportive.
When patterns shift, the whole system benefits.
How do we know if family counselling is right for us?
Family counselling can be helpful when issues cannot be resolved by one person alone. If conflict is ongoing, communication feels stuck, or multiple members are affected by the same stressor, involving the family system may be beneficial.
Do all family members have to attend every session?
Typically, we encourage participation from those directly involved in the concern. However, the structure can be discussed during your consultation to ensure it aligns with your family’s needs.
Is family therapy confidential?
Yes. Sessions are confidential within legal and ethical guidelines. We will review confidentiality policies during the intake process so everyone understands how privacy is handled.
What if one family member is hesitant to participate?
It’s common for someone to feel unsure at first. We approach therapy gently and respectfully. During the free consultation, we can discuss concerns and explore ways to create a comfortable starting point.
If your family is ready for a calmer, more connected home environment, we’re here to help.
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
